TSLB3252 CREATIVE WRITING : PROSE NON FICTION

💗ONE STEP OF MY JOURNEY💗

Dear diary,

It has been five days since my School Based Experience has started. And that means, this is also my last day in SK Kuala Krai. Compared to my last two SBE, this is surely the most fun and wonderful experience I have ever had in school. It is because, during my first and second SBE, I only had one friend with me in the same school. Honestly, it was quite awkward for both of us because we were both shy and we only focused on completing our tasks and interviewing instead of actually enjoying the school environment. Hence, we spent less time with the pupils. However, this time, I had four of my best friends choosing the same school for our last SBE. You know they said the more the merrier and it is true!

The first day was amazing. To be frank, I was exhilarated and a little nervous on making my first impression with the school community. Nonetheless, everyone including the headmaster, staff, teachers and the pupils were so sweet and welcoming. Furthermore, I have got a chance to meet Year 2 pupils. They were so cute and reminded me of my nieces. They loved it so much when I sang the Hokey Pokey song and did the little dances together.  Apart from that, I also got the opportunity to observe an English class with Teacher Izzati. She was so sweet and the pupils love her so much. She knew how to attract the pupils’ attention and made learning English fun. Her secret was to teach them using songs and storytime along with interactive and physical games.

On the other day, the headmaster gave me permission to do some activities with Year 4 pupils. They were so energetic and never sat still. I remembered how they shot me with questions and did not even let me breathe. The most frequent request that I got was to teach them at the school once I finished my study. At the end of the day, I was completely wiped out. One of the things that I love about the school was I could feel the strong relationships among the teachers and pupils and the whole school community. The heart touching moment was when a group of pupils accompanied me to the teachers’ room and waved their hands goodbye. During the last day, I received a few thank you letters from the pupils as well as some gifts. Their sweet messages and those little appreciations were really heartwarming and made me realise the beauty of this profession. When a pupil writes a thank you letter and how much they will be missing you, you cannot stop crying with joy. Your heart gets bigger, bigger and bigger with pleasure.

The workload for teachers is a lot and can be draining at times. More often than not, teachers are saddled with so much work that it exhausts them. To this day, I often wonder how other teachers who look so relaxed and at ease with everything do it. Minding a class full of kids is exhausting. They scream, run, shout, fight, knowingly make mistakes and laugh. However, it is the most rewarding profession.  For me, teaching is like performing art and it takes physical, mental, and emotional energy. No amount of reading or attending workshops will prepare you for the challenge. You only get better with practice. Throughout this short period of time, I have gained a lot of invaluable knowledge and experiences that I could not get anywhere else. For all my inexperience, I hope I made at least a small contribution to the students’ learning.

Thank you SK Kuala Krai 💖
